Case Study: Chelsea & Westminster NHS Foundation Trust Partners with Day Webster Managed Services for Sustainable Cost Improvement Plan

Overview:

In February 2016, Chelsea & Westminster NHS Foundation Trust partnered with Day Webster Managed Services to deliver a sustainable cost improvement plan while implementing SLA agreements with all agencies already supplying into the Trust. The aim was to ensure patient care and safety remained at the forefront of the service delivery, while achieving cost savings.

Background:

Chelsea & Westminster NHS Foundation Trust offers a range of services across two sites - Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex Hospital. The Trust needed a solution to manage the temporary staffing requirements while maintaining quality care for patients. They required an IT system that could work alongside their existing IT bank systems to manage reference numbers, cost codes, and approved timesheets through invoicing. Additionally, they wanted to eliminate the need for any additional training for their bank staff.

Solution:

Day Webster Managed Services were tasked to negotiate and implement SLA agreements with all agencies already supplying into the Trust. They created an IT system tailored to work with the Trust's existing IT bank systems, resulting in easy management of reference numbers, cost codes, and approved timesheets through invoicing. This system saved the Trust a considerable amount in terms of administration and resource, which allowed the Trust to refocus their priorities accordingly.

Results:

By implementing the managed service, the Trust was able to save a considerable amount of their budget while ensuring the very best temporary staff continued to improve service delivery across both sites. The successful negotiation of SLA agreements with existing agencies resulted in the removal of off-framework agencies being used. Furthermore, there were savings related to back-office processing and temporary staff ordering.

Conclusion:

Partnering with Day Webster Managed Services allowed Chelsea & Westminster NHS Foundation Trust to streamline their temporary staffing requirements, while maintaining quality care for patients. The partnership resulted in cost savings and improved service delivery.
